Africa 2024 London 1.2
Africa 2024
1.2 London
When: May 14 to 16
Where: London at The Savoy! Return stopover from Africa.
Weather: It was cloudy and a bit of rain when we arrived. Wednesday was stunningly beautiful with partly cloudy skies and a high of about 20C. No wind
What: Two night stopover in London en route to Vancouver. Possibly the best place for a stopover!
Who: Dan, Brent, Steph, Shane, Russell, David, Sue, Colin. Cousins Sue and Colin came down from the Liverpool area for a few days.
Workout: None. I hope that the lack of exercise has not become my new routine!
Walking: We walked from the hotel to the Churchill War Rooms which is near parliament. After many turns and getting lost, and walking past the horse-guards and the thousands of tourists photographing them, we arrived. The walk was supposed to be 17 minutes and 1.3 kilometres. Fitbit says we walked 2.5 km and 41 min!
Wine: Many glasses of wine at the American Bar, the Beaufort Bar, and at the Strand Palace.
Whine: I just wish we could stay longer!
Wtf: Although I’ve been to London several times, I’m always amazed at the sheer number of people walking. In the parks, on the streets, in the squares, hordes and hordes of people. It can get just a bit tiring occasionally but the vibe is generally electric.
Wild: The Churchill War Rooms were very impressive. I've always considered him one of the greatest heroes of the Second World War and of the 20th century. Seeing how the gov't of the day lived and fought the war while trying to stay in relative safety was amazing. This is worth a visit for anyone visiting London.
Wildlife: Just a couple of geese and ducks. The odd swan.
Water: The views of the River Thames (if you look closely you can see the river). The London Eye is in the background as well. Thanks again Russell for the fabulous rooms!
Wonderful: Tina Turner the Musical! Thanks Colin and Sue for treating us to such a fabulous show.
These amazing rooms and hospitality of our friend Russell and all the staff at The Savoy. Russell, you've outdone yourself again. Thanks for being the best. Looking forward to wine touring with you and David in Canada.
We've been to London 5 times (sometimes twice in one trip) in the last 5 years and every time it feels like we're coming home. London is just a wonderful city and I'd recommend everyone visit it if they can.
Also a wonderful meal with all eight of us in Covent Garden. I cannot find a pic of all of us, but it was the whole gang of eight. Was absolutely wonderful to have everyone together.
And finally, a wonderful Afternoon Tea at The Savoy!
****
What a wonderful way to end a brilliant trip!
